Our adventurer investigates Scientology and Kabbalah
From: NewsTrove.com

"Since I want to move in glamorous showbiz circles, too, I decided to sample both and report back. The good news is, I've lived to tell the tale. So far. But if I'm found anytime soon clutching a suicide note with a knife in my back, be suspicious. It's hard to picture Madonna in the unfashionable Fairfax district, hanging out in a one-story former youth center that combines Spanish missionary architecture with Taco Bell. But "Esther" (the Hebrew name she now calls herself) can be found at the Kabbalah Centre on many a Saturday, at one of its jam-packed Shabbat services."

"By Done Two weeks can seem like two years if an active imagination is turned loose by a mother left alone in a brand new house. Things can be worse if that mother has seven young children, a cowardly dog, a pregnant cat whose due date is just around the corner, and an insane parakeet bent on committing suicide while her loving husband is off frolicking in Arkansas. He claimed he was not frolicking, but working hard while helping with a crisis during an employee/management brouhaha. "We haven't even had time to play a round of golf," he complained. Poor baby! He called every other day to see if we were still alive."

Polly want to learn? (The Beacon News)

"Polly want to learn? If boot camp works for beginning soldiers, it can work for birds, too, some avian trainers believe. Lockport is the location of a series of boot camps for birds. Tina Usher is the instructor, and her trainees are all kinds of birds."

Parakeet Blogs from LiveJournal

"Hello everyone, I posted a while back about one of my birds having something on his beak. Several of you mentioned that it might be scaly mites. Since then, it's been treated by a vet, so thank you for all the good advice.

I have another question though, one of my parakeets laid an egg several days ago and we don't know what we should do about it. We've put some towels in the cage, and she looks like she's trying to keep it warm. I've also noticed that she doesn't seem to want to let the other birds near it either. Should we put her and the egg in another cage or is okay to leave her with the other birds? She's currently in a cage with two males and another female."

Hey ya'll

"My birds have started to do the cutest thing. they'l twitter along (or screech) with my music when i have my MP3's turned on. they seem to like Techno along (Airbase and DJ Tiesto in particualar). they also seem to like rob zombie. does anyone elses birds like to sing along, and if so, to what kind of music?"

More scoop on poop
From: www.livejournal.com

"Hi guys, I spoke to Dr. W tonight, and we had an interesting talk about bird poop. He told me that the messy green droppings that Moxie had most likely wasn't diarrhea. He said that diarrhea is very rare. He also explained that birds, when under stress, void so that they can make themselves as light as possible for flight. So, when you bring your new budgie home or take your bird to the vet and they have watery poop, that is why. Apparently they have greater control "down there" than we do.

He also said that most likely Moxie had eaten the most fibrous part of the broccoli. I did give him a piece, and it did have the stalk on it. Best to stick to just the florets. Too much fibre caused Moxie to bulk up and become constipated. However, the broccoli caused everything in his tract to come out, hence why his droppings were so large. That's also why his droppings have been smaller this week - there's nothing left to come out.

He also said something very interesting - when giving birds food, think of it in terms of scale. For example, one grape to a cockatiel would be like 600+ grapes to us. This is the second time I've talked to Dr. W, and the earliest appointment for a check up that I could get is March 11. Still have to check with my chauffeur on that one :-)

Anyhow, I just thought I would share the result of our chat. Please keep in mind that this was only the advice of one vet."
