The Seedy Underbelly of Humor Columns Revealed!
From: NewsTrove.com

"[Insert generic opening humor column sentence here.] Phew, now that we got that out of the way, we can talk. The opening sentence is always the toughest whether it be a humor column, an informal dinner gathering, or your first day with a new cellmate. Face it, you can't speak honestly to your cellmate Ox about your critical need for the top bunk until you've broken the ice with a quick line about the weather or a brief game of "I Spy." You: I spy something made of metal. Ox: Is it the shiv I'm hiding in my sock?? You: Wow, you win that round."

Bird fanciers are in for a treat because accessible roads and trails around the island easily lead to and through every habitat within short time spans. Parakeet Blogs from LiveJournal

From: www.livejournal.com

"Hello everyone, I posted a while back about one of my birds having something on his beak. Several of you mentioned that it might be scaly mites. Since then, it's been treated by a vet, so thank you for all the good advice.

I have another question though, one of my parakeets laid an egg several days ago and we don't know what we should do about it. We've put some towels in the cage, and she looks like she's trying to keep it warm. I've also noticed that she doesn't seem to want to let the other birds near it either. Should we put her and the egg in another cage or is okay to leave her with the other birds? She's currently in a cage with two males and another female."

More scoop on poop
From: www.livejournal.com

"Hi guys, I spoke to Dr. W tonight, and we had an interesting talk about bird poop. He told me that the messy green droppings that Moxie had most likely wasn't diarrhea. He said that diarrhea is very rare. He also explained that birds, when under stress, void so that they can make themselves as light as possible for flight. So, when you bring your new budgie home or take your bird to the vet and they have watery poop, that is why. Apparently they have greater control "down there" than we do.

He also said that most likely Moxie had eaten the most fibrous part of the broccoli. I did give him a piece, and it did have the stalk on it. Best to stick to just the florets. Too much fibre caused Moxie to bulk up and become constipated. However, the broccoli caused everything in his tract to come out, hence why his droppings were so large. That's also why his droppings have been smaller this week - there's nothing left to come out.

He also said something very interesting - when giving birds food, think of it in terms of scale. For example, one grape to a cockatiel would be like 600+ grapes to us. This is the second time I've talked to Dr. W, and the earliest appointment for a check up that I could get is March 11. Still have to check with my chauffeur on that one :-)

Anyhow, I just thought I would share the result of our chat. Please keep in mind that this was only the advice of one vet."
