"When Mr. Pisit and Mrs. Nongnooch Tansacha bought approximately 600 acres of verdant land on Sukhumvit road in Chonburi province, they had envisioned a fruit plantation filled with mangoes, oranges, coconuts and other local fruits. But when Mrs. Nongnooch saw the wonderful gardens during her travels abroad, she revised her plan and the property evolved into a tropical garden of ornamental flowers and plants. In 1980, it was opened to the public and named "Suan Nong Nooch," in honor of Mrs. Nongnooch. Today, it maintains more than 10,000 species of plants and can also provide services for organizing other people's gardens."

"What's a good gift for a senior citizen this year? Depending on the health and living situation of your favorite elderly relative or friend, a pet may be an excellent choice. Over the last decade, literally hundreds of studies have been done to determine the benefits of owning pets among the elderly. Among them: lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, lower rates of cardiovascular disease, fewer doctor visits, higher levels of mental alertness, less stress and reduced depression. Older pet owners also report that having a pet gives them something to care for and take responsibility for."

It has been so hard to post lately since we discovered the pleasure of badminton in the backyard. Yup! Once we put the kids to bed, the light outside last for another hour and a half to two hours. Then Dethe and I turn into the walk-barefoot-and-don't-miss-the-birdie-junkies. Oh, by the way we did score a bird. It was not so much a choice although we have been thinking about having a pet."

"shanks has been doing this all morning, where he randomly starts flapping his wings and sqawks. at first i thought he was just being silly. then as i was reading through [info]cockatiels's posts where someone asked a similar question.

from the jist of the responses it's some sort of courtship/mating thing.

then i realized shanks has been doing this because there are a couple of juncos and/or black capped chikadees bouncing around the trees outside his window. he made the saddest little noise after one of his failed attemps to get their attention. its far too cold out to open the window for him to call back and forth with the juncos.

i feel bad, maybe my consideration to get him a birdie friend of some sort isn't such a bad idea. though i am looking into different species, such as tiels or a parrotlet. i've heard parrotlets can be rather agressive towards other species though. cockatiel on the other hand, are quite compatable."
